Reshaping the Shelter Image
Across the country, many people view an animal shelter as an isolated prison where animals face imminent death. The reality is that an animal shelter is a reactionary solution to an active problem of animals being left without homes. However, an animal shelter’s provisions do not have to be rudimentary holding cells and there are many organizations making great strides to develop enrichment programs in their shelters. In response to this recognition, the Animal Protection League, Inc. has initiated standards of quality care and offers accreditation to qualifying shelters to help inform the public to those shelters that are striving to end the negative image and offer its community of animals more than just a cage.
